Pick 'n' Pay Strawberry Maths

On the shelf

Pick 'n' Pay is not known for its logical pricing (bulk products are often more expensive than their single or smaller-size counterparts) but this has been my favourite head scratcher, which I photographed earlier this year:

250g: R19.99 (not pictured - they were on the shelf above)
400g: R29.99
500g: R21.99

If you look closely, you'll see that the 400g strawberries are "Berries Strawberries, R74.98 per kg", while the Noname brand ones are only R43.98 per kg.

This "price per kg" is how they work out the price. Per kg.

0.4*74.98 = 29.99
0.5*43.98 = 21.99

I don't know what the price per kg of the 250g pack was, but I'm guessing it's going to be somewhere around R79.96.

I am aware of that but I'm pretty sure they all come from the same damn place, no matter what Pick 'n' Pay might label them.
